Frequently Asked Questions
What age should my dog start training?
Training can begin as early as 8 weeks old for puppies, as they are highly receptive to learning at this age. However, the saying "you can't teach and old dog new tricks" is a myth! It's never to early or late to start learning.
How far apart should my appointments be?
Once per week is typically reccomended. However, to suit your needs we can come as frequent as twice per week or as infrequenct as once every other week.
What is balanced reinforcement?
Balanced reinforcement is a training technique that is centered primarily around the scientific methods of classical and operant conditioning. We use a combination of positive and negative reinforcement. Instead of thinking positive and negative as "good" and "bad". Think of it as "giving" and "taking away". We take away something when the dog is doing the undesired behavior, and regrant access to it when the behavior we want to see is present. However, we understand all dogs learn differently and we are more than happy to adjust the technique based on your dogs needs!
Can you help with aggressive dogs?
Our training programs are designed to help communication between the owner and pet with obedience commands from sit to advanced off-leash recall. Limited solutions for resource guarding are available, however based on level of aggression, we may refer you to a trainer specializing in behavior modification.
What is the difference between in-home and on-site?
In-home is an visit that takes place in your home or on your property. On-site visits are meeting points such as walking/hiking trails, parks, and other community areas that can be used to enhance our training. On-site appointments will be approved at trainers discretion for the best interest of the dog.
